When you are spending your hard earned money on having your makeup professionally applied, it is nice to know that in return I am providing you with the best quality products available in the beauty industry.
With this in mind, I thought it would be nice to pick out a few of my favourite products in my kit, starting with the base products I carry.
I carry a selection of primer products to suit all kinds of skin types. My go to primer for most faces and one that will be most reached for over the Winter, is the Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Primer. This primer is infused with coconut water and immmediately hydrates and smoothes the skin, providing a nice base for the makeup that follows.
For dry and mature skin types, I like to apply Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream. This magic formula includes a hyaluronic acid booster which instantly plumps the skin, with its secret mix of anti-aging ingredients. One of the great things about this cream is that it is paraben free, so it is excellent for use on sensitive skin.
A favourite primer of mine for normal to combination skin is the Sunday Riley Effortless Breathable Tinted Primer. This is an oil free primer which really does allow the skin to breathe and extends foundation wear time significantly. The key ingredient in this primer is rejuvenox, which increases moisture levels in the skin, whilst reducing fine lines and wrinkles. This primer is also paraben free.
Also marketed as ‘primers’, skin illuminators are used beneath or on top of foundations to create a beautiful ‘lit from within’ glow. My method of use is always under foundation as I really like the youthful look this creates.
Diorskin Glow Maximiser Light Boosting Primer which gives the most gorgeous irradecent glow to the skin – a real healthy, dewy look creator.
Next we have Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow A paraben free anti-aging hero! This amazing product is used on Models and celebrities the World over. It has been created using collagen boosting peptides, which diffuse any wrinkles and create a lovely luminous spotlight effect on the skin.
For Lip priming I use Too Faced Lip Primer which prepares lips for lining and lipstick application. This formula is lovely on the lips, it doesn’t leave them feeling dry and it really works to prevent lipstick from feathering or transferring. It’s a definite must have for a dramatic red or burgandy lip!
Eye primers are helpful in minimising the appearance of fine lines and crows feet around the delicate eye area. The primer I keep in my kit for this is Amazing Cosmetics Line Smoother & Primer This product has a lovely cooling effect and smells like cherry cola to me?! It makes such a noticeable difference to any wrinkles, as it hydrates and resurfaces instantly.
My Final Thoughts on Primers
For me, I feel the steps taken in preparing and priming the skin, are just as important as the foundation application itself. The skin perfecting properties of these primers mean that more often than not, less foundation needs to be applied, which allows your skin to show through and for me this is makeup at it’s absolute best – real enhancement of natural beauty.
