Valentine’s at the Roman Camp Hotel

I was more than pleased when my husband suggested that we go out for Valentine’s this year.  We had spent the last few years at home with a M&S dine in for two, which invariably involved a share for our three little Angels (especially our middle child Steven the ‘foodie’ of our family).

This Valentine’s signalled the need for some much deserved quality ‘couple time’, and where better a place to spend it than the Roman Camp Hotel.

The Roman Camp Hotel is a historic luxury country house, set by the River Teith, in Callander, Scotland.  The hotel oozes luxury in every corner, with the exquisite furnishings and grand interior.  The secluded private gardens really are a delight and they really add to the ‘other worldly’ feel of the hotel.

The history of the hotel and its ownership is fascinating to read and find out about.  A full run down can be obtained on the hotel website:  Roman Camp Hotel.

The hotel dates back to the 17th century, when on the estates of the Earl of Moray.  The house took on further development in the 1800’s, under the Viscount of Esher, before taking on it’s hotel status in the 1930’s.    The hotel has been impressively run, by Eric and Marion Brown,  for the past twenty seven years.

So, onto our Valentine’s evening. I made myself suitably glam (Valentine’s makeup post to follow)…

And off we went to the Roman Camp Hotel.  Not too far to travel, with the hotel being just half a mile down the road from us, almost quite literally on our doorstep.

On arrival at the hotel, Brian and I were welcomed into the bar area, where we sat and enjoyed a glass of prosecco and some very tasty pre dinner canapés.

Our friendly and efficient waiter then took our orders for dinner from the fabulous menu.

We enjoyed a stunning four course meal, in the award winning three rosettes restaurant, with two extra surprises, compliments of the chef.

It was no mean feat clearing the delicious food from our plates, but Brian was victorious and I even managed to distribute my leftovers in his direction.

My Main – Scotch Lamb Loin, Aubergine Tart, Sweetbreads, Thyme Jus Gras

Brian’s Main – Roast Stone Bass, Caramelised Cauliflower, Bok Choi, Soy & Lemon Emulsion

Brian’s Dessert – Dark Chocolate Cremeux, Camp Coffee Glaze, Popcorn Ice Cream

My Dessert -Baked Passionfruit Creme, Caramelised Pineapple, Pink Peppercorn & Banana Sorbet

The meal was just stunning and it meant so much to be able to take our time and enjoy a meal in such beautiful surroundings together.

One of our complimentary tastes arrived in a very cute shot glass, a fabulous reminder of many a holiday together  – a  pina colada soda…

We finished off our evening with freshly brewed coffee and handmade chocolates, in my favourite part of the hotel, the elegant Library.

We were fortunate enough to have the room to ourselves which really was the icing on the cake.

Just off of the Library, houses a little hidden chapel.  This is a small room, but bold and beautiful in equal measures.

Brian is an avid reader and he very much enjoyed scoping out the vast array of books kept within the shelves of the library.

The evening seemed to pass so very quickly, as all good evenings do.  But, at the end of the night, we were both in agreement that we had enjoyed our most special and romantic Valentine’s Day yet ❤️.

I hope you all had a wonderful Valentine’s too!

Lynsay 💋
